Mixed Martial Arts

Muay Thai  

This martial art from Thailand is called the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of eight points of contact: punches, kicks, elbow- and knee-strikes. In this dynamic class experience, you will learn the art of striking utilizing the only weapon you need – your body. This is a fast-paced, high-energy class.  Practitioners must be in good physical condition.

 

Japanese Sword   

Learn the basics of Japanese Sword techniques with Sensei Art McConnell, a 5th Don licensed instructor and competitor, who studied under Professor Otani at NY Iai Kai. This dynamic class is for teens and adults of all levels. You will learn blocking, drills and forms while experiencing the beauty and invigorating aspects of this martial art.

Beautifully crafted to resemble a real samurai sword, the included red oak sword (or bokken) is great for practicing techniques without the dangers of using a “sharp” sword . The bokken is an inexpensive and relatively safe substitute for a real sword in several martial arts such as kendo, aikido and kenjutsuThe bokken does not demand the care, attention and skill of a live sword, and is safer for the user and other practitioners.

 

Aikido

Aikidois a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba.  On a physical level, the art of Aikido employs throws, joint locks and other techniques derived from Jujitsu and Kenjutsu. Aikido does not focus on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using one’s own energy to gain control or throw an opponent away from you.  Aikido is not a static art; it places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement.   Practitioners will find from Aikido what they are looking for, whether it is applicable self-defense techniques, spiritual enlightenment, physical health or peace of mind.

Tot Music by Music Together®

Thisinnovative music program was developed by the Center for Music in Young Children® specifically for infant through pre-school age children. In our 45-minute class, we provide opportunities for children to experiment with music through song, movement, chants and instrument play with the emphasis on the process (and fun!!) of creating music rather than on performance. In addition, we provide some very special bonding time! Each of the song collections used in class includes a wide variety of musical styles, tonalities and rhythms to provide a rich environment for children and their care-givers to grow musically
